From Moffitt Cancer Center:
IDG’s Computerworld has selected Moffitt Cancer Center as a 2012 Best Places to Work in IT. Moffitt is ranked No. 68 among 100 top organizations that challenge their information technology staffs while providing great benefits and compensation. The bi-weekly publication has recognized Moffitt annually since 2007.
“Moffitt’s Information Technology department is honored to be recognized by Computerworld for the sixth year in a row,” said Mark Hulse, R.N., vice president of Information Services and chief information officer. “Our expertise lays the foundation for personalizing medicine and focusing on our mission: to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.”
The annual list is compiled based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, Computerworld conducts extensive surveys of IT workers, and their responses factor heavily in determining the rankings.
The top 100 organizations will be included in coverage in Computerworld, along with results from the 19th annual Best Places to Work in IT survey.
“The organizations on this year’s Best Places to Work in IT list consistently seek out and hire the most talented IT people, offer them competitive pay and provide great benefits,” said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. “Many of these organizations have spent years building top-notch IT workplaces, and we applaud the amazing work they’ve done to sustain dynamic environments where IT professionals can work with the latest technologies and play a key role in business-critical projects.”
Four percent of Moffitt’s 4,197 employees work in IT. They have the option of incorporating flextime and participating in job sharing. Employees can develop technical skills and access web-based and third-party training through Knowledge Management Services. This department gives new employees access to orientation and web-based training.
Moffitt’s benefits package also includes onsite child care, medical and dental insurance, life insurance, long-term disability coverage, prepaid tuition assistance, pension plan, 403(b) plan, and parental leave. Moffitt offers a free onsite health care clinic for employees with no co-pay required. Clinicians evaluate and treat minor illnesses, monitor chronic conditions and write prescriptions.
