From Tiffany Sperry, Lewis Elementary PTA:
Lewis Elementary hosted Math Night at the Publix located on 53rd Street and Fowler Avenue April 19.
All students from kindergarten through fifth-grade were invited to join in the festivities.
When arriving at Publix, students were greeted by Principal Kristin Tonelli, Assistant Principal Delilah Rabeiro, and several teachers. They were handed a sheet and clipboard, according to their grade level, that allowed them to solve different math problems using real groceries and price lists. After completion of their tasks, they received a prize at the opposite entrance of the store.
Teachers were there to help students throughout the way, as well as decorate their own sugar cookies in one of the aisles. The store was buzzing with more than 50 students and their parents.
Lewis Elementary would like to extend a special thank you to the Publix management and staff for providing food for our teachers, as well as all of their help during the event. The parents would also like to thank our administration and staff for organizing this fun and educational event.
