From King High School:

International Baccalaureate 10th-grader Haoqing Wang is the first King High School student in a decade to qualify for the United States of America Mathematics Olympiad. He is the only 10th-grader in Florida to qualify after completing the American Mathematics Contest and the American Invitational Mathematics Examination.

Approximately 70,000 students participated in the AMC, and the top 5 percent moved on to take the AIME.

Haoqing competed in the Olympiad among 270 students whose combined scores from the two exams were the highest. He will be notified of his score in May.

The top 24 students overall and the top 12 underclassmen with the highest scores will attend the Mathematical Olympiad Summer Program, all expenses paid, in Nebraska this summer.

Haoqing’s goal was to qualify this year, and he hopes to be in the top 24 next year. His future goals include attending Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and major in engineering.
