Elevated levels of ozone in the atmosphere have caused the Environmental Protection Commission of Hillsborough County to issue an air quality advisory for today.
“Individuals with pre-existing respiratory ailments, the elderly, or the very young may want to take this into consideration when planning any outside activities,” the agency wrote in a media release.
According to the county, today’s level of the pollutant ozone is particularly high. The Air Quality Index is expected to reach a range of 101 to 150. This is considered moderate, but unhealthy for some people, such as the sick, elderly and young.
The advisory goes into effect at 3 p.m. today and will last through dusk. Early indications show that tomorrow’s levels will likely be similar.
