Fire Department to Host Advanced Life Support Competition
The contest will bring 15 fire departments from around the state to Temple Terrace.
The Temple Terrace Fire Department receives top marks when it participates in the annual Advanced Life Support Competition, but it won’t be competing this year.
That’s because the Temple Terrace Professional Firefighters (Local 3582) have partnered with the City of Temple Terrace to play host for the contest Nov. 7-8. The department isn’t eligible to participate because it’s involved in hosting.
Fifteen fire departments from throughout Florida will gather at Temple Terrace Fire Station 1 at noon Nov. 7 to compete in various fire-rescue scenarios, according to a press release from the City of Temple Terrace. They’ll reconvene at 9 a.m. Nov. 8.
More than 60 fire professionals will be competing in intense medical scenarios designed to be as realistic as possible, said Temple Terrace Fire Capt. Carl Sullivan in the release. Fire-rescue personnel will be graded on how well they respond and perform under pressure.
The three top-rated departments will compete in the finals, starting Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. at the Family Recreation Complex. Winners will be announced immediately following the finals. The winning team will receive trophies, prizes and statewide bragging rights, according to the release.
“Sponsors of this event include StatPacks, Pepin Distributing Co., 3M Medical, ESS Glasses, MSA Cairns and Plano America,” the release state. “The department also thanks the Temple Terrace Leisure Services Department for its support.”
