Commissioners Give ‘Innovation Destination’ Initial Approval
The proposal was backed by the Temple Terrace City Council.
At their Tuesday meeting, the Temple Terrace City Council voted to support Innovation Destination, a proposal that Hillsborough County Commissioner Victor Crist planned to bring to the Commission Wednesday to revive blighted neighborhoods.
The proposal, which ended up getting unanimous approval from County Commissioners, will help communities from I-275 east to I-75, and from Sligh Avenue north to New Tampa.
According to a story posted on TBO.com, Crist said at the meeting that he had talked to “dozens and dozens” of organizations with interests in the area, including officials from Tampa and Temple Terrace, businesses and the University Area Civic Association.
Commissioners asked Hillsborough County Administrator Mike Merrill to bring them a plan in 45 days that outlines the area’s challenges and strengths and how they can be used to the county’s advantage.
