Fashion Show Features Celebrity Look-Alikes
The Temple Terrace Friendship Club’s fall fashion show featured classic moments from the past through celebrities and their individual fashion statements.
Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball and other stars graced the runway at the Temple Terrace Friendship Club’s semi-annual fashion show Tuesday.
Well, that’s not entirely true. These and other celebrities were portrayed by local look-alikes.
Club member Reeda Culbreath introduced Debbie Bowles as Elizabeth Taylor, Clarann Smith as Marilyn Monroe, Lynn McKinney as Lucille Ball, Betty Tsakonas as Joan Crawford, Mary Grevencamp as Carol Burnett and Mayor Joe Affronti as Cary Grant. Some of the celebrities were remembered for their glamorous lives, and others for making people laugh.
Affronti served as escort and Janet Carr, owner of Accessories and More in Sarasota, provided the narrative and fashions. Fourteen models in 35 different outfits were featured.
The fashion show and a luncheon took place at the Temple Terrace Golf and County Club. More than 200 women attended.
“We were so delighted to be able to provide a time of fun and fellowship for the ladies of our club and their guests,” said Culbreath. “Reaching out to the ladies of our community with support and caring, providing unconditional love and acceptance for one another is our goal. Through this fashion show, we hoped to provide a couple of hours where the cares of each of our lives could be put aside, replaced with lovely fashions, lively conversation, delicious food, and sheer fun.”
Temple Terrace Friendship Club members gather monthly for fun, social fellowship, lunch and entertainment. Any woman may join when sponsored by a member. Meetings are the second Tuesday each month at the Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club. Those interested may join the Out to Lunch Bunch for an outing the first Tuesday of each month.
Club President Maryrose Owens said she enjoys the fellowship of the members and said the club is fun.
“Two projects of our club have not changed since it began in 1958,” she said. “We welcome new women to the Terrace and help them make friends, and offer an opportunity once a month for nothing but fun.”
Fran Heller is a long-time member of the group.
“I joined the Friendship Club after I retired, more than 20 years ago, as an opportunity to meet and get to know other ladies in my neighborhood,” Heller said.
Friendship Club members dues are $15 per year and lunch meals are $12. Bridge precedes the monthly luncheons, except in May and November when fashion shows take place.
