Baby Owl Climbs Tree
Each Sunday, we'll post a photo of Temple Terrace nature from someone in the community as our Sunday Nature Photo.
You might remember me posting on the Temple Terrace Patch Facebook page a couple weeks ago that a baby Barred Owl fell out of a tree in my back yard, and then climbed up another tree to a horizontal branch.
That's where it stayed for a whole day. I didn't know if it was hurt or in danger, and I asked what I should do. I followed the advice of Patch Facebook fan Kitty O'Neil, who said: "It is probably fine and its folks will most likely come help it. Leave it alone."
Turns out that Kitty was right. By the next day, it was back safely with its family.
But not before I could get a couple photos of it, of course. The first photo shows the little guy (or girl) resting on the trunk of the tree. In the second photo, the owl is using its beak and claws to pull itself up.
I hear owl calls every now and then at my North Riverhills Drive home, but the owls have seemed to be especially vocal the past few weeks.
I just hope that the next time this owl leaves the tree, it's able to soar.
Do you have a local nature photo you’d like to share? Email it to ashley.reams@patch.com and it could be featured on a future Sunday.

Beautiful story & pictures. We have owls in Raintree come & sit on branches outside our back patio which faces the lake; so we get to see wildlife constantly; alligators, eel fish, turtles, cranes, ducks, woodpeckers, owls, snakes, raccoons, and other night critters.. So I need to send in some of my pictures...SA
