9 Things to Do This Memorial Day Weekend
Looking for fun ways to spend the holiday? We’ve got you covered.
If you’re looking for something to do this holiday weekend, there’s plenty going on in Temple Terrace.
Shopping
Lady Ashley Designs is transitioning to online-only sales, and the brick-and-mortar store will close after business Saturday. As a last hurrah before the move to the web, the store is having a final closing sale, offering 70 percent off items that won’t make the transition to the website. Co-owner Elizabeth Sullivan said the bargains are “huge.”
“Give us a GREAT send-off!” she wrote on the Temple Terrace Patch calendar.
Yoga
If your goal is to get fit this summer, there are multiple chances for you to try yoga this weekend.
On Saturday, Dale Morphew will lead a yoga session at the Family Recreation Complex at 8:30 a.m. He said it will be a mix of stretching and flowing to strengthen and tone your body. It’s $6 for Rec Center members and $9 for non-members.
Every Saturday and Sunday, Felicitous Independent Coffee House has yoga on the lawn at 10:30 a.m. On Saturdays, Kristin Prosen leads a 60-minute Hatha Yoga class. On Sundays, Denice McClure leads a 75-minute Vinyasa class. Each class is $12 and includes a coupon for a loose-leaf tea. Bring a mat, towel and water. Call for possible cancellations due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
Also on Sundays, Morphew leads a free yoga class for the whole family and all levels of experience at Riverhills Park at 4 p.m.
Taste Tea
The whole family is invited to Kaleisia Tea Lounge’s free Tea Tasting on Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sample 10 varieties of tea and enjoy a 10 percent discount on all loose tea and tea ware purchases.
Open Mic Night
Poets, musicians and other performers will be featured on stage at Felicitous Independent Coffee House at 7:30 p.m. and Sacred Grounds at 8 p.m. It’s free to watch and participate.
Fun in the Sun
Although the City of Temple Terrace is closing most of its buildings Monday, its Family Recreation Complex will be open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Memorial Day kicks off the opening of the fun pools, kiddie pools and water slide. Pools open at 9 a.m.
If you plan to be outside this weekend, be sure to read Spa Simple’s latest blog post on the best ways to protect yourself from sun exposure.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
Although there are fun events on our calendar, there are none actually celebrating the true meaning of Memorial Day. How are you honoring fallen soldiers?
