Update: 7-Year-Old’s Death Under Investigation
Tampa police say the girl died following injuries suffered when a gate fell on her.
Update, 3:18 p.m.: Riverhills Elementary School has had a crisis team on site today to help the school family cope with the death of Zhanaye Williams. Letters are being sent home with students to let their parents know about the death.

The Tampa Police Department is investigating the death of a 7-year-old girl.
According to a media release, the child, Zhanaye Williams, was killed when a gate fell on top of her at Brookside Apartments, 5008 Sierra Place.
“(The) Initial investigation indicates the child attempted to move the gate when the gate fell on top of her and caused life-threatening injuries,” the release said.
Williams was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where she later died from her injuries.
The accident occurred just before 7:30 this morning, April 11.
The child’s mother has been notified and the investigation continues, the release said.
